Pennant, "Silver Springs, Fla.," 1940-1965

01

Artifact Overview

Silver Springs, Florida, became a resort destination after the Civil War. In the 1890s, glass-bottom boat tours (which are still available today) gave visitors a chance to view the springs' aquatic inhabitants. By the mid-20th century, the springs drew in the growing number of auto tourists. These vacationers could purchase inexpensive souvenirs like this pennant to remember the time they peered into the springs' clear waters.
