Pennant, "Baltimore Orioles," 1954-1964

01

Artifact Overview

In 1954, a group of Baltimore, Maryland, civic and business leaders purchased the St. Louis Browns and moved the ailing baseball team to their city. They renamed the team the Baltimore Orioles after the official state bird of Maryland. The Orioles' first years were trying, with losses outnumbering wins, but success finally arrived in 1966 with a World Series championship.
