Elwood Engel began his design career in General Motors' Art and Colour Section. Following Army service in World War II, Engel joined Ford Motor Company's design studio and worked on vehicles like the 1958 Ford Thunderbird and the 1961 Lincoln Continental. Engel became head of design at Chrysler in 1961. He retired in 1973.
