- Etch-A-Sketch, 1961 - When Ohio Art introduced their new Etch A Sketch magic slate in July 1960, it was the first toy that the manufacturer promoted through television advertising, helping to assure the engaging toy's immediate success. Made of plastic with a magnetic screen, the "artist" could draw horizontal and vertical lines by turning two white knobs at the bottom of the screen.
