- Morris Chair, 1912-1916 - The "Morris" Chair is named after William Morris, a 19th century leader of the British Arts and Crafts movement. The characteristic of a Morris chair is the adjustable backrest which made them comfortable and consequently popular. Morris chairs came in many styles -- this chair was created in the American "Mission" style, made by Gustav Stickley's Craftsman Workshop and was widely imitated.
