- Trade Card for the Orange County Farmer Newspaper, 1881-1895 - In the last third of the nineteenth century, an unprecedented variety of consumer goods and services flooded the American market. Advertisers bombarded potential customers with trade cards. Americans enjoyed and saved the often illustrated little advertisements found in product packages or distributed by local merchants. Many survive as historical records of commercialism in the United States.

Americans enjoyed and saved the often illustrated little advertisements found in product packages or distributed by local merchants. Many survive as historical records of commercialism in the United States.
- Orange Groves, Riverside, California, circa 1900 - Orange growers and packers in Riverside, California, joined forces to launch the Riverside Fruit Exchange in 1893. The exchange marketed navel oranges, grown in expansive groves like this one. To increase production of the sweet, seedless crop consumers craved, growers propagated new trees by grafting buds onto rootstock. At harvest time, workers hand-picked and packed the oranges for sale.

Orange growers and packers in Riverside, California, joined forces to launch the Riverside Fruit Exchange in 1893. The exchange marketed navel oranges, grown in expansive groves like this one. Edison directed teams of research assistants here for nearly fifty years -- from 1887 until his death in 1931. More than half of Edison's 1,093 patents resulted from the collaborative work done in this complex, which became a model for modern research and development laboratories.

- "In Nature's Laboratory : Commemorating Our Vacation Trip of 1916, August 28th to September 9th" - The Vagabonds -- Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, and John Burroughs -- enjoyed their annual camping trips taken from 1916 to 1924. Burroughs chronicled the group's 1916 journey in the elaborate scrapbook <em>In Nature's Laboratory</em>. Burroughs, Edison, and Firestone traveled through the Adirondack Mountains and Vermont. Ford couldn't make the trip that year.
