"J.T. Slack Shoddy Mills, Springfield, Vt.," circa 1910
- "Covered Bridge, West Brattleboro, Vt., in the Green Mountains," July 1952 - Covered bridges were built across the United States throughout the 19th and into the early 20th centuries. Bridges provided important commercial and community connections, but constructing them required careful planning and a substantial investment of time, labor, and materials. Walls and a roof helped preserve these valuable structures by protecting the truss system and keeping structural timbers dry.

Burroughs chronicled the group's 1916 journey in the elaborate scrapbook <em>In Nature's Laboratory</em>. Burroughs, Edison, and Firestone traveled through the Adirondack Mountains and Vermont. Ford couldn't make the trip that year.

The Vagabonds -- Henry Ford, Thomas Edison, Harvey Firestone, and John Burroughs -- enjoyed their annual camping trips taken from 1916 to 1924. Burroughs chronicled the group's 1916 journey in the elaborate scrapbook In Nature's Laboratory. Burroughs, Edison, and Firestone traveled through the Adirondack Mountains and Vermont. Ford couldn't make the trip that year.
- Postcard, St. Bernard Puppies by a Pond, 1909 - Depictions of dogs and puppies often appeared in art and folk art in the United States. Inexpensive lithograph prints made in the mid-19th century emphasized people's relationship with dogs. Starting in the late 1890s picture postcards included these types of popular illustrations of dogs. Sending colorful postcards through the U.S. mail continued to be widespread well into the 1910s.
