- Bathroom Scale, 2003 - Starting in the early 1980s--and already established as an internationally recognized architect--Michael Graves began to pursue a parallel career as a product designer. Over the following three and a half decades he and his collaborators designed everything from humble household goods to limited edition luxury items for clients as diverse as Steuben, Alessi, Target, J. C. Penney, and Disney.

- United States Bureau of Standards Railroad Master Scale Equipment, 1919 - Railroads relied on accurate scales. The weight of a loaded freight car was used to calculate shipping charges. Weight measurements also helped prevent overloading, which could damage the car or track, bridges, and other structures. The large weights in this photo were used by the U.S. Bureau of Standards to verify the accuracy of railroad scales.
