German automotive pioneer Gottlieb Daimler built his first car in 1886 and founded Daimler Motors Corporation with Wilhelm Maybach in 1890. The company, initially formed to build engines, began producing automobiles in 1892. This 1897 Victoria model features a two-cylinder gasoline engine rated at six horsepower. Daimler Motors merged with Mercedes-Benz in 1926, and was merged with Chrysler from 1998-2007.
