Legendary race car builder Art Sparks started racing in the 1920s before working with Paul Weirick to become one of the most successful teams on the West Coast. After separating from Weirick, Art Sparks joined forces with multi-millionaire race fan, and eventual driver, Joel Thorne. The Sparks-Thorne team built the Big Six Cylinder engine used in top-rated cars at Indianapolis throughout the 1930s and 1940s.
