Artifact Overview
The Chicago, Iowa & Nebraska Railroad built the first track in Iowa, headed west from Clinton on the Mississippi River and toward the Missouri River. It became an important link in the First Transcontinental Railroad when that was completed in 1869. The CI&N was merged into the Chicago & North Western which, in turn, became a part of Union Pacific in 1995.
