Phineas Taylor (P.T.) Barnum (1810-1891) was the preeminent American showman of the 19th century. From 1835 to 1891, he captivated audiences with various ventures such as his human curiosities exhibitions, his famed circus, and opera singer Jenny Lind's 1850 tour. Barnum was also called the "Prince of Humbug" for his exaggerated advertisement claims and hoaxes.
