Artifact Overview

Director George Lucas took special effects to a new level, and cemented the concept of the summer blockbuster, with his 1977 film Star Wars. It was classic mythmaking with time-tested themes -- a farm boy, yearning for adventure, gets caught up in a galactic battle of good versus evil. The movie yielded two sequels and three prequels under Lucas's watch.
