MGM's 1940 film Young Tom Edison explored the early life of the famous inventor. Mickey Rooney starred in the title role. In preparation for his part, Rooney visited Edison's reconstructed Menlo Park Laboratory at Greenfield Village. While there, Rooney met with Francis Jehl, who had worked alongside Edison as a laboratory assistant.
