Artifact Overview

The San Diego Exposition Road Race was held on January 9, 1915, as a complement to the concurrent Panama-California Exposition. Eighteen cars started the race, which followed a six-mile circuit through the Point Loma neighborhood. Earl Cooper took the checkered flag in the #8 Stutz, earning $5,000 in prize money for his victory. An estimated 50,000 spectators watched the competition.
