Artifact Overview

In 1853, residents named the new town of Lincoln, Illinois, after Abraham Lincoln. It was the only municipality named for Lincoln before he became President. Lincoln visited the area frequently, practicing law for the Eighth Judicial Circuit at the Logan County courthouse in nearby Postville. Henry Ford would later purchase the courthouse and move it to Greenfield Village.
