Ford's first GT40, introduced in 1964, was powered by a 289-cubic-inch V-8 engine. After disappointing results, Ford switched to a modified version of its NASCAR-proven 427 V-8 and dubbed the new car GT40 Mark II. Ford started winning races, and no victory was sweeter than at Le Mans in 1966 when the company broke Ferrari's six-year winning streak.
