Artifact Overview

Sir George Hubert Wilkins (1888-1958) is recognized for his early 20th-century exploration of Earth's polar regions. Wilkins made several flights over the Arctic ice cap and the Antarctic continent. He also navigated a submarine under the ice cap attempting to reach the North Pole. Ford Motor Company honored Wilkins with a dinner at its pavilion during the 1940 New York World's Fair.
