Leo Goossen was an automotive draftsman, engineer, and one of the most influential engine designers in American auto racing. In a presentation from our monthly History Outside the Box series on Instagram earlier this year, Processing Archivist Janice Unger recognized Goossen’s 130th birthday with a quick biography and look at some of Goossen’s work from our collections. If you missed it on Insta, you can watch below.

If you’d like to learn more, you can read about some of our recent additions to the collection related to auto racing, including a set of Goossen’s drafting tools, or check out those tools and other artifacts related to or created by Goossen in our Digital Collections. Our research experts can answer your questions about the Leo Goossen items in our collections. And be sure to follow The Henry Ford on Instagram to catch each new story from our collections during History Outside the Box on the first Friday of each month!
