Chalmers-Detroit's corporate history is bookended by connections to two significant American auto companies. Chalmers was founded in 1908 by Roy Chapin and Howard Coffin, who went on to establish Hudson. At its end in 1924, Chalmers was absorbed into Chrysler. In between, the company built popular but relatively expensive four- and six-cylinder automobiles. This 1909 Model E roadster sold for $2,800.
