Niddy-Noddy, circa 1800
01
Artifact Overview
A niddy noddy is a tool used to measure spun yarn. Wrapping the yarn completely around the niddy noddy one time equaled two yards. It took 560 yards of yarn to make a skein. A woman might spin four to six skeins a day. Winding the yarn into skeins on a niddy noddy told her just how much she had.
