Artifact Overview

Posnets were small vessels used for cooking in fireplaces in early American homes. People used the three-legged, long-handled pot to make sauces and heat a variety of ingredients used to make a family's meal. Posnets stood over a pile of hot coals or sat warming near the fire inside a hearth.
