Charles Brady King built and drove the first automobile in Detroit in March 1896, three months before Henry Ford finished his Quadricycle. King left the auto business in 1912 to pursue other endeavors. Over the years, he assembled a significant collection of model ships and steam engines. King later gifted some of his model engines to Ford's museum.
