Phil Hill, born in Florida but raised in southern California, is the only American-born driver to win the Formula One World Drivers' Championship, having done so in 1961. Hill also won three times each at the Le Mans and Sebring endurance races. Following his retirement from competitive driving, Hill enjoyed a second career writing for Road & Track magazine.
