"Sextoblade" Surgical Straight Razor, circa 1942

01

Artifact Overview

In the past, veterinarians removed hair with surgical razors instead of electric clippers when treating wounded or sick animals. On an unshaven animal, bandages will not stick properly and will be painful to remove. Hair will also obscure the treated area, making it more difficult for veterinarians to complete procedures and monitor healing.
