Panama-Pacific International Exposition Promotional Token, 1912

01

Artifact Overview

San Francisco was still recovering from a devastating 1906 earthquake when this token was produced in 1912. The previous year, the city had been proclaimed the official site of the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition. San Franciscans eagerly promoted the fair, which would celebrate the 1914 completion of the Panama Canal and the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the Pacific Ocean.
