Rittenhouse Seed Sower, 1900-1910
01
Artifact Overview
The hand-cranked spinning disk of a broadcast seeder distributes grass and grain seed quickly to a wide area -- an improvement over tossing out seed by hand. By the time this seeder was made, it would have been used on smaller farms or to plant less critical crops. Larger, wealthier farms employed seed drills, which placed the seed into the ground.
