THF153994 / Centennial Exhibition Women's Pavilion Medal, 1876

Artifact Overview

Philadelphia's Centennial Exhibition was the first world's fair to contain a Women's Pavilion. The building displayed women's fine and decorative arts, their inventions and a record of their philanthropic endeavors. The inscription found on this coin -- similar to the phrase that adorned each entrance of the pavilion -- reminded visitors of women's contributions and their expanding role in society.
