John Burroughs loved to fish the trout-rich streams of the Catskill Mountains in New York. As a young boy, Burroughs accompanied his grandfather on local fishing outings--fond memories of these childhood expeditions would remain with him the rest of his life. Burroughs often wrote in his journal about his fishing exploits and published a number of works on the joys of trouting.
