Hubbell Toggle Switch, 1917-1920
01
Artifact Overview
Switches open or close an electrical circuit to turn things off or on. A toggle switch uses an external lever or handle to trigger a spring-activated mechanism. The toggle's action--accompanied by an audible click--rapidly and forcibly opens or closes the circuit. This quick make-and-break action prevents pitting and buildup from electrical arcing and prolongs the switch's working life.
