Artifact Overview

A record snowstorm dumped more than two feet of snow on southeast Michigan on April 6, 1886. High winds piled snowdrifts in streets and most businesses ground to a halt. Snow impeded travel; roads became impassable and delays were common along the rail lines. This photograph shows the aftermath of the storm in Ortonville, Michigan.
