Scale Model of an Alfa Romeo P-3 Race Car, Driven by Tazio Nuvolari in 1935

01

Artifact Overview

Italian automaker Alfa Romeo introduced its P3, designed by Vittorio Jano, in 1932. An eight-cylinder, supercharged engine powered the race car via twin driveshafts to the rear wheels -- an arrangement that allowed the driver's seat to fit between the shafts, lower to the ground. Tazio Nuvolari beat a field of favored German cars with his P3 at the Nurburgring in 1935.
