Mother's Day, a national holiday devoted to honoring mothers, was first officially recognized in 1914. In the decades that followed, presenting mothers with greeting cards on the second Sunday of May became a popular tradition. This nontraditional, humorous card from about 1980 is printed on a brown paper bag. Its vivid imagery reflects the style of the time.
