Artifact Overview
In the late 1800s, the American Protective Tariff League advocated for tariffs to encourage and safeguard American industries. The League also endorsed political candidates, like President Benjamin Harrison, who backed their cause. In 1892, the League created this badge to support Harrison's re-election. The plate-shaped badge (a reference to the tariff on imported tin) contains a short poem praising protectionist measures.
