Based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Atlantic Petroleum was formed in 1866 and became part of John D. Rockefeller's Standard Oil Trust. In the mid-20th century, Atlantic operated gas stations throughout the East Coast, branding its premium blend of gasoline under the "Imperial" name. Atlantic merged with Richfield Oil in 1966, and its gas stations ultimately were folded into Sunoco.
