Artifact Overview

The Monotron tube was used in the early development, study, and servicing of television receivers, prior to World War II. This special cathode ray tube used electrostatic deflection to produce test patterns and adjust television sets. The tube produces a unique test pattern: it contains a halftone image of Mary Eastman (a popular radio vocalist) printed onto an aluminum plate.
