Artifact Overview
Hudson introduced "step-down" design to its product line for 1948. The cars featured unit-body construction with frames that encircled their passenger cabins. Passengers literally "stepped down" into the low, aerodynamic automobiles. The 1948 Hudson was also notable for styling contributions from Betty Thatcher. She joined Hudson in 1939 as the first female designer hired by an American automobile company.
