Boy on a Bicycle Holding a Dog, circa 1950

Artifact Overview

In America during most of the twentieth century, while adults motored around, children pedaled. Kids' bikes were vehicles for doing odd jobs. They also transported children to and from school and around the neighborhood with friends. This photograph from the 1950s shows that a bike could also carry a boy's best friend in any kind of weather.
