Artifact Overview

The New York, New Haven & Hartford Railroad, often referred to simply as the New Haven, ran throughout Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. Its seasonal snow trains, established in 1935, ferried New Yorkers to and from New England ski resorts. Snow trains attracted much-needed passengers during the Great Depression -- and they increased skiing's popularity in the process.
