A & W Car Window Serving Tray, 1950-1960

01

Artifact Overview

In 1919, Roy W. Allen ran a small walk-up root beer stand in California, when he partnered with his employee Frank Wright. The partners opened three subsequent root beer stands, then franchised their concept nationwide. By the mid-1920s, "tray boys" and "tray girls" provided eat-in-your-car service. This serving tray hooked onto the window of a car.
