Equipment of an English saddle-horse of the / late sixteenth century (circa 1575.) / Horse-drawn coaches appeared in England during / the reign of Queen Elizabeth. Previous to that / time few roads would have permitted extensive / comfortable vehicular travel, and long land journeys / were performed on horseback or by sedan-chair.
