Artifact Overview
A bell was a needed accessory for a bicycle. Some local laws required bicycles to have them. Bells also helped alert pedestrians and other cyclists to the oncoming vehicle. The New Departure Company started in the industry by making doorbells in 1888. They would go on to manufacture other products for bicycles and automobiles.
