Girl's Smock, 1870-1890

A young girl used this simple cotton smock to protect her clothing when playing or doing activities like crafts or cooking. How can we tell? This smock has large armholes and sleeves, and an open back that made it easy to slip on over other clothing. The stains on the front are clues, too!
