Artifact Overview
Newcastle, Wyoming, was established in the late 1880s when the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad pushed northwest from Nebraska toward Montana. The city's population boomed, reaching 1,000 within a few years. Businesses thrived. Among the new establishments was the D.W. Fawkes & Company drug store. The proprietors, as well as being druggists, sold a variety of goods and even made milkshakes.
