This Plaster of Paris bank served two purposes. Its primary purpose was to teach children the virtue of saving their money. Its secondary purpose was to be a decorative object in a middle class Victorian home. The endearing cat smoking a pipe was a whimsical device meant to serve as a conversation piece on a mantel or book shelf.
