Workers in Front of a Steam Locomotive, circa 1905

THF120526 / Workers in Front of a Steam Locomotive, circa 1905
01

Artifact Overview

Four workers posed with an 0-4-0 saddletank locomotive. Saddletank engines had their water tanks situated on top of their boilers, rather than in separate tenders. This arrangement shortened the locomotive and increased weight on its driving wheels, making the design ideal for yard work. This crew and locomotive worked on the Delray Terminal Railroad in Detroit, Michigan.
