When introduced in 1952, Mr. Potato Head came with sharp-pronged plastic eyes, ears, noses, and mouths that kids could stick into a potato and arrange in endless variations. Mr. Potato Head soon acquired a wife, children, and a variety of accessories, including a car and a boat. He also had the distinction of being the first toy advertised on television.
