Artifact Overview

The American Civil Rights movement of the 1960s inspired other groups of people to demand basic rights. In 1962, Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez co-founded the National Farm Workers Association (later known as the United Farm Workers), a union for California migrant workers. In 1970, building upon the recent success of a grape boycott, striking workers called for a nationwide boycott of non-union lettuce.
