Hill climbing contests combine steep grades, hairpin turns and dangerous drops for some of the most challenging races in motorsport. Early competitions not only tested the driver's skills but showcased the practical performance of the automobile. At the 1910 Old Home Week event in McKeesport, Pennsylvania, C. G. Binder raced his Ford up the one-mile course in just over two minutes.
