Roy Mobeck, of Chicago, Illinois, began bicycle racing as an amateur in the late 1910s. He participated in and won several local competitions. In 1917, he rode to victory in the Melrose Park Athletic Club's 15-mile Handicap Bicycle Race. In the early 1920s, the cyclist turned professional and competed in a number of six-day races throughout the Midwest.
